In recent weeks, Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry has had a field day over the state Democratic Party's self-inflicted wounds regarding chair Allison Tant's decision to exclude Nan Rich from next week's Jefferson-Jackson dinner.
Now the Democrats are playing offense, blasting Governor Rick Scott for his Tuesday night veto of HB 235,
which would have allowed some young immigrants illegally living in the U.S. to apply for a temporary driver's license.
His veto is despite the fact that the Florida Legislature voted nearly unanimously in support of the bill in both houses (two people in the House voted no).
The measure would have allowed anyone who had been approved for deferred action under President Obama's executive order last year to use that status to apply for a temporary driver's license that would last for at least one year.
"Given that deferred action status does not confer substantive rights or lawful status upon an individual, Florida is best served by relying on current state law," Scott said in his veto message.
