With 80,536 new cases reported over the three-day period, the state was responsible for about 32 percent of the 251,629 new COVID-19 cases nationally during the time span.
The state was responsible for 31 percent of the 1,086 COVID-19 deaths during the period, the data show. Meanwhile, Florida continues to be the only state that has more than 20 percent of its inpatient hospital beds utilized by patients with COVID-19.
Also, the numbers of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units also are increasing.
Data posted Monday showed that about 89 percent of ICU beds were occupied. Of the 5,804 ICU beds in use, 2,836 were filled with patients who had COVID-19. The surge in cases and deaths is caused by the delta variant of the coronavirus.
Florida hospital officials say that most patients who are admitted to the hospital have not been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, which is the virus that causes COVID-19.
