Both lawmakers celebrated passage of the bill, but Scott didnโt deny the measure as written does nothing to address the growing federal deficit. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office released a calculation Sunday showing the bill would add $3.25 trillion to deficits over 10 years.
โIn this bill, there are many spending projects you will be surprised to see with our nation more than $37 trillion in debt. I was, too,โ Scott acknowledged in a written statement released following the vote.
โBut, that is the imperfect process of bringing elected individuals together to pass a bill that works for their states. I have been warning my colleagues for years about the dangers of massive deficit spending and debt for the American people, and we have our work cut out for us to ensure Congress fully understands this.โ
โThis bill delivers the LARGEST tax cut for the working and middle class in history,โ Moody said in a press release.
โThis is just the beginning, and with President Donald Trump, we will not stop pushing forward, around the clock, to deliver wins for the American people. There is a lot of work to get done so that our country returns to financial freedom, but together, we will restore policies that ensure Florida is stronger and safer than ever before.โ
Moody added that passage of the bill puts โan end to the Biden-era madness.โ
The measure now moves back to the U.S. House of Representatives. Among Floridaโs 20 members in the House, eight issued a statement on Monday indicating they support the measure. The bill is opposed by all eight Florida House Democrats.
