A Toast To Your Health
Night School for Your Health is a free and ongoing community education program offered by Tampa General Hospital. This month's topic is asthma, and if you or a loved one suffers from this chronic respiratory disease, you might benefit from attending.
The first lecture, "Asthma Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment Options," is presented by Bruce M. Schnapf, associate professor at USF's College of Medicine. Schnapf offers information about how this disease is diagnosed and the many treatment options that are available.
Dr. Mark C. Glaum, assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at USF's College of Medicine, presents "Allergic Asthma Triggers and Environmental Control." An asthma trigger, of course, is a factor that can lead to sudden difficulty in breathing. Learn about some of the more common triggers and how to keep your environment free of them, as well as how to reduce asthma episodes.
Finally, executive director of the American Lung Association of Florida, Shirley Westrate, speaks about her organization and what it does to help fight asthma.
Registration, light refreshments and free respiratory screenings occur from 6 to 6:30 p.m.; presentations begin at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by a question and answer session. Wed., March 30. Tampa General Hospital, MacInnes Auditorium, Second Floor, East Pavilion, 2 Columbia Drive, Davis Islands, 800-822-3627.
