Moving Current Dance Collective continues the celebration of its 10th anniversary with a concert that gives young and/or emerging choreographers the rare opportunity to show off their talents in a full-scale production and in front of a live (and generally attentive) audience. The NewGrounds 2007 program focuses on Florida choreographers, and featured artists include Ferdinand De Jesus of Lakeland's Florida Dance Theatre, Matthew Reeves and Colette Krogol (both of Gainesville), Rachael Inman of Fuzion Dance Artists (Bradenton/Sarasota), Robyn Luck of Hard Luck Dance in Miami, Sarasota's Courtney Smith and Palatka's Alison McLearn. A Moving Current Community Project directed by Lynne Wimmer will also be presented.
The concert is preceded by Show & Tell, the most recent addition to NewGrounds-related events. Basically, local choreographers are invited to share dance works with the community on a first-come-first-serve basis without having to pay an application fee or meet any audition requirements. Participating choreographers are then encouraged (not required) to participate in a brief open response with the audience directly following the performance of their work. (4 p.m. Thurs., May 17, free admission for spectators). For more info, visit movingcurrent.com.
