I was touched, almost to the point of gushing green tears, when I read of George Bush's St. Patrick's Day sound-bite performance with the family of Irishman Robert McCartney, who on Jan. 30 was beaten and stabbed to death outside a Belfast pub.

The perps are presumably 12 members of the Irish Republican Army. These aren't your granddaddy's Irish freedom fighters such as Patrick Pearce, but degenerate scum who, like terrorists everywhere, prey mostly on the innocent.

As the Bush administration well knows, the money that might have paid for the knives that cut short McCartney's life – and that purchased bullets and bombs used in hundreds of IRA murders – comes from foolish romantics in the United States.

In fact, a leading prosecutor of terrorists in our own government has had a major role in funding Irish terrorism. Wow, you say, the guy must be pretty clever to keep such blood-drenched activities secret.

Well, no. The government knows. I've told the feds…
