Two great up-and-coming bands hit the stage at The Garage Bar this week. Perpetual Groove hails from Athens, Ga., and has taken their trance-y, tension-and-release jamming to the next level, adding a heavy dose of distortion to the riffs and filling the empty spaces with fatter, fuzzier basslines and the sort of thunderous drumming that would make John Bonham proud. Colorado's Green Lemon playfully performs funkin' electronica, reggaefied, hip-shakin' grooves and melodic four-part harmonies, music that encourages a fun, party atmosphere. Both bands play against array of colorful lights and both have improved so much in the past several years that passing up their shows is not a viable option. Highly recommended. Perpetual Groove Thurs., March 8, $15, and Green Lemon March 14-15 w/The Apple Project (Wed.) and the Burnin' Smyrnans (Thurs.), $7 each night, 662 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-553-9212.
