Letters to the Editor

RACE RELATIONS

I have never been inclined to write a letter to any publication, (especially not this rag), mostly because you are all amateur, zero-minded idiots. Normally, I would flip past your editorials without even the slightest interest, knowing you couldn't possibly have anything remotely valuable to say. Boy, I should have stuck with that ritual! You are a total fucking asswipe! Of all the stupid and worthless subjects for you to write about, you decide to have another go at the fucking race issue (Cover Story, "Still Divided," by John Sugg, Feb. 1-7). HELLOOOO??? Can you beat this pathetic subject into the ground any more?

If any real divide is present, it's more than likely because we are all so sick and fucking tired of hearing it! You moron, don't you ever open the door and look outside at the world? When was the last time you could even look at a black person without being snapped at like a rabid dog? Wake up asshole, there is no greater racism in the world as that of the hatred for whites that is instilled in the black mind throughout this country. Gee, I don't know, but I turn on the TV, and I see a pretty equal world. I see black talk shows, sitcoms, sports, business leaders, where's the problem? Did all these black millionaires just get lucky and win the "I overcame the man" lottery? Or could it be that maybe, they actually went out and worked for something instead of bitching and moaning how the world oppresses them while sitting around making babies and waiting for the welfare check. Did you happen to catch the MTV awards? Are there no more white entertainers left or is it just the media cowering to, catering to, and feeding this whole race issue from the start? And you think quoting a fictional character in a novel gives you cred? So are you now implying that John Grisham is a racist too? Newsflash, you're quoting a fictional character, dumbass!

Whites in this country are so goddamn sick and fucking tired of being blamed for racial divides that we are not responsible for. And criticizing people for wanting their kids to go to school and not have to be held back by a bunch of illiterate thugs whose only ambition in life is to be a gangster, or go to prison. "I want to grow up to be just like 50 Cent, man!" Yeah, that's a goal. Quit fucking blaming the white man for the plight of the downtrodden, everyone has the same opportunities you idiot; some just choose not to take them.

Everyone in this country needs to get with the program and start to realize that you will achieve, and receive, when you get up off your ignorant ass and contribute something. Until then, I don't want to hear your fucking bitching and crying.

MORAL MAJORITY

The reason nobody who represents the majority opinion on these moral issues wanted to be part of the Weekly Planet lynching on Jan. 30 was for this very reason (Editor's Note, "Battle Lines," by David Warner, Feb. 8-14). They simply don't have the stomach to be pummeled by a minority who choose to reject the Bible for the Absolute Truth it represents and live their lives in complete rebellion to God's Word. I willingly came down to represent the Biblical point of view despite the fact there was a panel the likes of Redner, Smith and Hunt whose views and ideologies are absolutely rejected by the majority in our society. According to society, they are the extremists, so I had no illusions of this being a reasonable discussion, but came so that the Truth would at least be heard by those who were open to it.

Every night I give of myself to do a "live" TV program on major secular TV stations throughout the state of Florida for the sole purpose of reaching people who are not Christians and who don't believe in the Bible, yet are going thru the difficulties of life and looking for some hope. Anyone who has ever watched my program knows that I don't compromise the Truth of God's Word or take a soft stand on what God calls sin with my audience, but compassionately and lovingly share the love of Christ with them. Each night we help thousands of people make their way through the most difficult times in life there are.

Over 1/4 million, mostly non-Christians, watch my program each night for a reason. They know something is missing in their life, they realize their poor choices have caused them much pain and heartache and they are looking for some direction and encouragement. The fact is, nobody will go to hell unless they choose to reject Jesus Christ. That is a choice each person must make for themselves in their life. However, you can't say you love Jesus on one hand and choose to live in utter rebellion to His Word on the next. Jesus said you can't serve two masters.

The event on Monday night was a clear example of the battle lines drawn between those who choose to believe in God's Word and those who choose to reject it. However, that is the choice each person must make in their life since one day we will all die and at that moment the only thing that will matter is if you know Jesus. I spend my life helping people find that faith in Christ. I am not your enemy, or the enemy of Redner, Smith, or Hunt. Your enemy is God because you choose to live in rebellion to His Word. My prayer is that you and others will turn from that rebellion and find His peace.

FLAWLESS

Nice dude, you [Scott Harrell] rule, I love to read your shit. Every week it is the first thing I read in the Planet, and it has only gotten better. The last few weeks have been flawless. You keep your shit honest and entertaining, and the best thing of all — you are not condescending. You keep it semi-intelligent and loose at the same time, nicely done. I hope to see you around downtown some time. I'll buy you a drink.

Everything in Moderation

As an out and proud liberal I was greatly disappointed in the "Political Divide" debate on Jan. 30. As a moderator, I feel Wayne Garcia had the responsibility to force the speakers to answer the questions posed to them and not allow them to careen into a personaly oratory. Bill Keller already has his own platform and I very much resent him using this forum as an extension of it. When he refused to answer the question of how he counsels people without veering into a homophobic diatribe, you should have simply told him to answer it or shut up!

That is what the media has done in recent years: they refuse to hold the violator's feet to the fire and answer the hard questions but, instead, allow the conservatives to hijack the dialogue to their own advantage and I, for one, am tired of it. It is the moderator's responsibility to hold them accountable to answer the question posed. If they refuse, they should forfeit their chance to speak. Period!

CORRECTION: In last week's food feature "Extreme Measures," we stated that Khue Dinh had been part owner of the Sushi Rock Grill in St. Petersburg before opening Sushi Extreme. In fact, he was not an owner, but worked as head chef.
