Guided Hike at Weedon Island Preserve- Every Saturday; 9-11 am. Guided hikes through coastal mangrove and upland ecosystems of the Preserve are held on most Saturdays of the month. Join us to learn about the coastal environment and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve. Be sure to bring water and a snack for this 2-hour hike. A hat and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Reserve your space by 2 pm on the Friday prior to the tour of choice. This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Guided Hike at Brooker Creek Preserve- Every Saturday; 9-11 am. Take a walk through time each Saturday morning on a guided hike along the Education Center Trail. Join us for this 0.75 mile walk as we look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended. Pre-registration is required by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the hike. Admission: Free. Habitat for Humanity Showcase Home Green Open House- Saturday, August 28; 11 am. Join in for a special peek into Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County's first green subdivision. With volunteer labor and help from the homeowners, they've built LEED certified townhomes. Take an exclusive tour and find out what Habitat is all about. Whole Foods Storewide Block Party- Every Tuesday; 6-7 pm. Our block parties are back in full swing. Every Tuesday in July, we will have a store wide block party with a different theme. Customers will be treated to tasty treats and will be able to cast a vote for their favorite department. The winning department will select the theme for the next week. This is a free event. Green Drinks Tampa Bay Meetup- Wednesday, September 8; 6 pm. Every month people who work in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.
