According to Sandy Bauers from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Mallory Goes Green was one of the book winners of the 2011 Green Earth Award by the Newton Marasco Foundation (NMF). NMF created the Green Earth Literature Program featuring the Green Earth Award to get more books with a message of environmental stewardship into the hands of children and young adults, and to connect authors with youth. The award is also the nations first annual award for authors and illustrators whose books bring awareness to green topics.
The Green Earth Book Award is awarded in four categories:
- Picture Book: connects book pictures and illustrations that are as important as the text for children from pre-school to age 8.
- Childrens Fiction: encompasses novels for young readers up to age 12.
- Young Adult Fiction: includes books for readers from age 13 to 21.
- Nonfiction: includes books for readers from infancy to age 21.
Mallory Goes Green, published by Darby Creek/Lerner Publishing Group, won the category under Childrens Fiction and is advertised with the message of the books heroine, Mallory, looking to make her school and home eco-friendly.
