USF’s lecture series featuring thought-leaders at the intersection of sustainability, architecture and urban design continues this week with one of the rising stars of contemporary architecture, San Diego-based Teddy Cruz, on Thursday. The Rome Prize-winning architect is perhaps best known for his modular multi-family housing designs inspired by the shantytown construction of U.S.-Mexico border towns. On the following Monday, Gulf Coast-based architect Michael Grote discusses rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Katrina. Expect to hear both speakers advocate for affordable housing and contextually appropriate density as cornerstones of sustainable design. Sustain It(!) — Design Discourse on Strategies + Tactics in Sustainability in Architecture and Urbanism: “Teddy Cruz — The Global Border to the Border Neighborhood,” Thurs., Nov. 6, 6 p.m., Room 107, and “Michael Grote — Beyond Grand Plans and Schemes: Rebuilding Community After Katrina,” Mon., Nov. 10, 6 p.m., Room 109, both in the C.W. Bill Young Joint Military/ROTC Building, Maple and Holly Drives at USF-Tampa, 813-974-4031.
