HE'LL GET YOU, MY PRETTY: A Features Costume Contest winner at Guavaween 2005.

If you've attended Guavaween, you know what it's like and you either enjoy the unrestrained mayhem or avoid it like the plague. If you're among those who have never experienced Ybor City when its streets are overrun with the Bay area's drunken, costumed masses, I suggest planning an excursion for simple gawking purposes.

The event occurs on Sat., Oct. 28, and attendance is expected to exceed 80,000 people. This year's schedule of events is as follows:

GUAVAWEEN FAMILY FUNFEST

10 a.m.-3 p.m., $5 admission per person

10 a.m. Pumpkin giveaway to the first 250 costumed children at the MORE-TV32 booth (Centennial Park, Eighth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets).

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Continuous live entertainment — music, magic, dance and more — occurs on four separate stages: the MORE TV-32 Stage (Seventh Avenue and 16th Street), the Mix 100.7 Stage (Seventh Avenue and 18th Street), the Gaspar's Grotto Stage (1805 E. Seventh Ave.), and the Centro Ybor Stage (Centro Ybor Courtyard, Eighth Avenue).

10 a.m. Home Depot Kid's Workshop (Centennial Park).

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mix 100.7's "Safe Trick-or-Treat" throughout Ybor City; bags and directions available at Seventh Avenue and 18th Street.

Noon-4 p.m. "Create A Creature" workshops at Creatures of Delight (15th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues).

2-2:30 p.m. Spooky Story Time (Centro Ybor Courtyard)

2-2:30 p.m. Pet Costume Contest at the Mix 100.7 Stage

2-3 p.m. Children's Costume Parade and Costume Contest at the MORE-TV32 Stage

3 p.m.-3 a.m., $15 admission per person

4 p.m. Guava Love It! Cooking Contest (Centro Ybor Stage, Eighth Avenue at 16th Street)

8 p.m. Mama Guava Stumble Parade The parade — which is by admission only — begins at Seventh Avenue and 20th Street, and moves west on Seventh to 15th Street, where it disbands.

Shuttle buses depart from the Florida State Fairgrounds, Raymond James Stadium, USF Sun Dome and Wagon Wheel Flea Market. Daytime shuttles run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. ($5 for adults; children ride for free). Evening shuttles begin at 3 p.m. and the last shuttle leaves Ybor City at 3 a.m. ($20 round-trip ride includes admission; $10 round-trip shuttle ride only). Rides are also available on the TECO Line Streetcar System, which offers special extended hours (3 a.m.; $4 single-day unlimited ride card, $2 one-way ride card). Paid parking for streetcar rides is available at Tampa Port Authority (1101 Channelside Drive). Proceeds from the event support the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce.
