While zodiac nuts are busy observing the Year of the Dog, the United States Congress has declared 2006 as the Year of the Museum. Despite cynics’ comments on wasted time in the Senate, curators nationwide are thrilled. The Florida International Museum is certainly ready to commemorate the occasion with its latest exhibit, Jeweled Objects of Desire. In addition to relics on loan from the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History are works that seem to be the brainchildren of a Warhol disciple with money to burn (think bejeweled sardine cans and cell phones). Also featured are artifacts and paintings from surrounding Florida museums in From the Vaults of Florida Smithsonian Affiliates. Don’t miss this chance — after all, 2007 could be the Year of the Parachute. May 25-Sept. 30, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues.-Sun., 244 Second Ave N., St. Petersburg, $10 adults/$8 seniors and military/$6 students/free for children 6 and younger, 727-341-7901.
