James Sadler was a prominent local hairstylist who died unexpectedly at the age of 37 this past summer. To honor him, his co-workers set up the James Anthony Ray Sadler Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a Hillsborough County high school student with good grades, an extracurricular interest in the arts or music, and the desire to become a hairstylist. The first fundraiser, held at Azalea Lounge in downtown Tampa, raised more than $500 for the scholarship. A second, more spectacular affair takes place this Friday evening. The Heart Show (aka hair + art = ) features live hair design and fashion shows; original creations by an array of local artists and designers; live spins by local DJs; a silent auction with items from places like Ybor boutique NeoTrash and Sadler's former workplace, Tribeca ColorSalon; a model hairstyling contest for local cosmetology students; and an exclusive "marketplace" with on-the-spot hairstyling, T-shirt screen-printing and demos by local and international companies. Fri., Feb. 16, 8 p.m.-3 a.m., Czar, 1420 E. Seventh Ave., Ybor City, $10, 813-247-2664, tribecasalon.com.
