Although Governor Rick Scott has joined with a group of GOP governors who refused to expand Medicaid after the Supreme Court's affirmative ruling on President Obama's health care reform legislation, there are aspects of the 2010 bill that are already taking effect right now.
Such as the fact that health insurance companies can no longer deny access to Americans with pre-existing medical conditions, a fact highlighted today by Ron Pollack with the national health care advocacy group Families USA, and Laurie Goodhue, Executive Director of the group Florida CHAIN.
Those two officials released a report that showed that 3.8 million non-elderly people in Florida fall under that category, with 54,300 in Hillsborough County alone.
