(UPDATE: Ronda Storms responds)Following the Rahm Emanuel dictum that a crises should never go to waste, on Tuesday, Democratic candidate for Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez called for citizens filing tax appeals to the Value Adjustment Board in Hillsborough County to be granted an extension based on the phone outage hitting the county appraiser's office.
Verizon has been trying since last Thursday to repair damaged cables that have left hundreds of Hillsborough County customers without phone service, including the county appraiser's office.
Henriquez is in a battle with Republican Ronda Storms in a race to succeed Rob Turner, who Storms defeated in the GOP primary last month.
Citing the stew of Hurricane Isaac, the RNC and the phone outage, Henriquez is requesting that the Florida Department of Revenue allow the Value Adjustment Board to delay its meeting scheduled for this Wednesday.
