In 2006, the Hillsborough County School Board signed a five year contract with a cell phone tower company called Collier Enterprises II. That contract has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to individual schools in the district for principals who okay the use of such towers on their school property.

For several years, a group of concerned parents in Tampa have bitterly opposed the placement of such towers on Hillsborough school campuses, and have been effective in some cases in thwarting the placement of such towers.

On Tuesday, Collier Enterprises II original five year contract came up for a renewal – but was never voted on.
