Lyssa Morgan Gallery has been making waves in the South Tampa art community since it opened last February. This month, the gallery hosts artists hailing from the Southern Hemisphere for its latest exhibit, Hot Summer Nights.
Ten creative minds native to and currently living in Brazil are showcased and each offers something a little different. Fernanda Meirelles of São Paulo explores her varied interests via colorful abstract paintings while another São Paulo artist, Alice Vilhena, says her images arise "from among the forms … surrealistic and imaginary." Finally Jane Wickbold displays vibrant paintings with hidden faces that reveal her playfully imaginative personality. Other featured artists include Olivia Amaral, Teresinha Carvalho, Cynthia Castejon, Ana Goldberger, Lucia Lückmann, Cristina Mason and Claudia Tielas.
All of the artists are flying into town for the opening reception, which features tasty eats courtesy of Brasilia Grill and takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. Fri., July 21.
Hot Summer Nights, July 21-Aug. 15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tue.-Fri., 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sat. and by appointment, Lyssa Morgan Gallery, 4062 Henderson Blvd., Tampa, 813-281-1000, www.lyssamorgangallery.com.
