With another round of loaded elections imminent, it’ll be easy for pundits and the public at large to make like the attorney general and sidestep questions not just about restoring felons voting rights.
Not with Daniel Rivero around.
Late last year, the WLRN reporter and producer released “Just Freedom,” a deep dive into Florida’s long history of voter suppression and brings readers up to speed as felons continue to fight for their rights to cast ballots despite voters passing Amendment 4 in 2018.
Deeply-reported, the work covers two decades and finds Rivero using court documents, meeting transcripts, interviews, videos and on-the-ground testimony to show how politics, money, and other challenges have delayed the fulfillment of a promise more than a million felons have been clinging to for nearly a decade.
Rivera will be at The Commodore in discussion with former Tampa Tribune Editor Tom Scherberger (former host of WMNF Tampa’s “Wavemakers” public affairs program).
