Happy Friday to you one and all.

With a short holiday week for most of the nation next week, we're not certain how much political news will be generated, but we had loads of it here in Tampa on Thursday.

The biggest news was that former Congressman and 2006 Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jim Davis says he will not run for mayor in Tampa.

Speaking of the mayor's race, a new poll published yesterday shows Dick Greco, who is not in the race officially, to have a slight lead over Rose Ferlita.

We learned that news while we were at a restaurant on Harbour Island, looking out at the spectacular view of the Tampa Convention Center and the St. Pete Times Forum, two sites that will be the home in less than 2 years of the Republican National Convention and the building that will house the 15,000 reporters in town filing stories about that event.  The chair of Tampa's effort, Al Austin, spoke about how plans are going so far.

And we have some fun thinking about this Sunday's slate of NFL games, including a big one: Tampa going to San Francisco, where the Bucs have not had success in a long time.
