Members of the Florida Senate Military and Veterans Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security Committee on Monday unanimously voted to pass a proposal (SM 1710) that, according to the News Service of Florida, asks President Obama and Congress to bring more freedom explosions to the Middle East.
The non-binding resolution, according to NSF, "urges Congress and President Barack Obama to authorize the use of military force against al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) 'and all other global Islamic terrorist organizations that similarly engage in acts of terrorism.'"
"With all of the power that we have, as the greatest nation in the world, and with the threats that come across, whether it would be in our computers, whether it be bombings in other nations or other countries, ultimately it's moving closer to us," said Sen. Greg Evers, a Baker Republican and the measure's sponsor, according to NSF.
Critics were wary of making war with groups of people not necessarily attached to a chunk of land, which is the case with both groups, and some note that, believe it or not, the U.S. is already making sweet, sweet war to Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, largely via airstrikes.
But no matter.
The bill, technically referred to as a memorial, has another stop to go before a full vote on the Senate floor. THere's a companion version in the State House, which Pinellas Republican Larry Ahern filed.
