Florida U.S. Democratic Senator Bill Nelson demonstrated why some folks might call him long-winded as he rambled on a bit at the end of his speech sponsored by the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce at Valpak on Monday afternoon.
The Senator said “final comment,” several times, but continued to keep on chatting, including giving his own personal observations about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who he said he had visited three times over the course of his near 11 years the Democrat has served in Washington.
That admission, hardly a secret as Nelson’s 2006 appearance in Syria made international news, is now fodder for political payback, now that al-Assad has basically been killing his own people indiscriminately over the course of the past few months.
Today Republican candidate for Senate George LeMieux blasted Nelson for meeting with the Syrian leader.
