N.M. Kelby is a Sarasota writer who spent the first 20 years of her career as a television and print journalist. After the unexpected death of her father, she realized that there was no such thing as "spare time" and quit her day job, writing and publishing her first book, In the Company of Angels, a few years later. Since then, she's published the well-regarded Whale Season and, most recently, Murder at the Bad Girls Bar and Grill. Kelby reads from and signs copies of Murder at Inkwood Books this Thursday. Thurs., June 5, 7 p.m., 216 Armenia Ave. S., Tampa, free admission, 813-253-2638, inkwoodbooks.com.
