While it feels like Ol' Dirty Sundays has been building up the credibility and vibrancy of the Tampa Bay area local hip hop scene for forever, the weekly Sunday night dance party was established a mere year ago. Resident DJs Casper and LeSage spin the highest-quality old and new school hip-hop, funk, reggae and soul music jams, guest DJs and performers regularly sit in (Talib Kweli, Mos Def and 9th Wonder have all dropped into Ol’ Dirty Sundays), local B-Boy crews bust breaks and moves, bumpin' beats inspire impromptu free-style sessions, live graffiti artists add their visual sprays of color to the mix, and free food is served fresh off the grill all throughout.
Get popped, locked and loaded at the One-Year Anniversary Party, which takes the groove-festive atmosphere to another level with more of everything, especially music. DJs Blenda, Qeys, YNOT, Rod Uno, Sandman, Deacon, KU, Fader, Selekta, Chang, Rob Analyze, Shafiq, Spon, Q-Phunk and Tha Mixfits take turns kicking out the spins with residents Casper and LeSage, while rhyme-slingers like Dynasty, Jinx, Gwan Massive, Breakdown, Atwaters and Mike Mass perform throughout the night.
