Roughly one year ago, a new media outlet covering the Tampa Bay area’s music and culture scene — SuburbanApologist.com — made its premiere in the blogosphere with pics by Brian Mahar from a Crowbar performance featuring Cali noise rock duo No Age. More than 900 posts later, the grassroots blog run by local music enthusiast Ray Roa (whose byline you’ll also find on the print and web pages of CL) has blossomed, and currently encompasses a small but devoted crew who offer thorough and thoughtful reporting on the local landscape.
This free show and celebration of the blog’s first anniversary includes sets by some of SubAp’s favorite punk-infused local acts: garage/surf leaning outfit Michael Christmas; fast and raucous hardcore quartet, Feral Babies, which are pimping a punchy new nine-track 7”, Violent Boredom; and the bouncier punk-pop charmers Criminal Culture.
Details: SubAp One-Year Anniversary Party with Michael Christmas, Feral Babies, Criminal Culture, Sat., Feb. 11, 9 p.m. doors, New World Brewery, Ybor City, free admission.
