WE THE KINGS

(S-Curve)

Bradenton pop-punkers We The Kings give you whiplash on their self-titled debut disc, zipping through 10 up-tempo fist-pumpers before settling down for one ballad. The Kings blast out tight, immediately likable hooks that sound customized for breakout exposure. I wish there was a bit more variety on display, but I can't pretend I haven't been suckered by the album's lone slow track, "This is Our Town," the only label-released tribute to Bradenton pride I can remember. Driven by pianos and acousitc guitars, the song gives a shout-out to Lakewood Ranch and references the city's original name, Bradentown. A band that shows Bradenton some love? Rad.
