James Wolcott, currently at Vanity Fair, has had a long and illustrious career as a culture critic and blogger for a number of publications. But this book is his memoir of being fresh out of college in mid-1970s New York City and working at the Village Voice, his coverage of the punk/new wave scene and his friendship with Pauline Kael, as well as hilarious anecdotes about the porn industry. A wonderful portrayal that is also a primer on the writing life. —Mitch Perry, CL news & politics editor
