Police in Bartow say that Amel Villarreal Jr. accidentally shot himself in the parking lot of Summerlin Academy where he was waiting to pick up a family member.

The 39-year-old has a valid concealed carry permit according to police, who added that Villarreal shot himself in the right leg when he took the 9mm semi-automatic handgun out of his waistband and tried to put it away in his minivan’s console. No students were hurt in the incident, and Villareal is in stable condition, but WFLA did say that criminal charges were pending.

This incident happened just a couple of weeks after a deputy accidentally fired their gun into a cafeteria wall at Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel. Another accidental shooting happened at a Land O’ Lakes Publix early this month.

All of this makes us wonder how hard it really is to accidentally shoot yourself with your own gun. Also, does shooting yourself automatically disqualify you from being a good guy with a gun, or does it just make you a moron?
