What do you get when you meld an '80s movie classic with the retro cool of swing dancing? Why, Swing Back to the Future! (Natch). Held at the lovely Gulfport Casino Ballroom overlooking Boca Ciega Bay, the event begins as a 1950s sock hop and ends as a 1980s dance party. Guests are encouraged to dress the part, with awards going to the best costumes from each era and the best hybrid of the two. (As a veteran of the more recent decade, I encourage you to don your Vans and Swatch watches.) Live music is performed by Freight Train Annie, whose members have performed with the likes of such '50s stalwarts as Joey Dee, the Ink Spots, the Coasters and the Drifters. Other festivities include a Hula Hoop Contest, Moonwalk Contest, and a Swing Dance Lesson (no partner needed).
