Mike Suarez, a former chairman of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee who makes his living as an insurance agent, is the latest candidate to file to run for Tampa City Council, but at the rate things are going, he surely won't be the last.

Suarez today announced he's running in Tampa's District 1 race.  That field includes Rick Barcena,  Tom Slaughter, Guido Maniscalco, Christopher Cano and the current city councilman in District 3 Curtis Stokes.  Stokes was named as an interim council member to replace Linda Saul-Sena last summer, and originally said that he would not run for election to a four-year-term, but like Yolie Capin, has opted now to so, though in Stokes case in a different district.

Suarez has ran one previous time for political office, back in 1998, where he lost a bid for the Florida House District 57 seat.
