There is big news in local politics this morning. One of the Tampa Bay area's favorite progressive politicians, St. Petersburg's Rick Kriseman, will announce later today that he will not run for re-election to his House seat this November. This will lead to speculation that Kriseman is getting ready to challenge Bill Foster for mayor next year, but Kriseman reportedly has not decided whether or not he's ready to do that.

Yesterday the Sunday morning chat shows were obsessed by one thing — the Secret Service sex scandal out of Colombia. Pardon us if we're not as focused on this as the producers of those public affairs programs.

On Friday afternoon we saw Florida Senator Bill Nelson speak out on the two-year anniversary of the BP oil spill, where he spoke specifically about the RESTORE Act, which would send billions more money to Gulf Coast states like Florida that were deleteriously affected by the giant spill.

And in case you missed it, Tampa's Bob Buckhorn on Friday gave his most outspoken comments yet about the state law that bars him from banning guns in Tampa's 'clean zone' for the Republican National Convention this summer.
