The Tampa Bay Times lead story this morning is about a proposal for a new home for the Tampa Bay Rays that would be located in the Gateway/Carillon area of St. Pete.

It's all quite interesting, and we look forward to seeing if anything comes out of it. Considering that both the Tampa Tribune and the Times have published numerous breathless articles over the past three years of similar tales (especially the Times), we'll wait and see if anything happens.

Oh, and what the $550 million question – who will pay for it? That's addressed about 2/3rds into the story.

On to convention news. Newt Gingrich says he'll be speaking to delegates at the convention later this month – not in prime time, but in "classes" in the morning in Tampa.

Although some Democrats may be skittish about promoting "ObamaCare" (the phrase the president now says he endorses), Tampa Representative Kathy Castor isn't one of them.

On Tuesday night Tampa Assistant Police Chief John Bennett was at his most explicit when detailing why the city of Tampa won't allow protesters coming to Tampa for the convention to camp in a city park.
