A series of polls out this week indicate local government officials may be getting their message out on Amendment 3 on the November ballot, which asks voters to raise the current exemption for non-school homestead property taxes.
The proposal, pushed by DeSantis, needs 60 percent support from voters.
Polling came in at 51 percent support in a survey from Stetson University’s Center for Public Opinion Research. Another 25 percent were opposed, while 24 percent remained undecided.
Numbers released by EDGE Communications and MDW Communications had the yes vote at 50 percent, no votes at 27 percent and undecided at 23 percent.
The measure drew 53 percent support from a poll by Associated Industries of Florida’s Center for Political Strategy on Wednesday. A release from the Tallahassee-based lobbying group’s center stated the measure failed to get 60 percent in any of the state’s media markets. Still, 19 percent were undecided.
The ballot measure asks voters to raise the current exemption for non-school homestead property taxes from $50,000 to $250,000 by 2028. Also, the annual 10 percent cap on assessment increases on non-homestead properties would drop to 5 percent.
