Taking their name from a Velvet Underground song, The Black Angels are a five-member group born from Austin's fertile music scene in 2004. Though they've been performing their heady, wall-of-sound rock for a relatively short amount of time, support sets for Queens of the Stone Age and Smashing Pumpkins exposed them to a wide range of audiences, and last year's co-shows with The Black Keys cemented their status as indie darlings. The Black Angels are currently on an extended North American tour in support of their second full-length, Directions to See a Ghost, released on Light in the Attic Records in May. They are joined by the older but somehow lesser-known L.A.-based neo-psychedelic rock band The Warlocks, who produce everything from heavy garage odysseys to languid, acoustic-guitar-driven space-rock ballads. Both play Crowbar this Saturday night; The Beauvilles provide support. Sat., July 12, 9 p.m., Crowbar, 1812 N. 17th St., Ybor City, $10 in advance/$12 at the door (ages 18 and up), 813-241-8600, aestheticized.com.
