There have been a handful of events for Occupy Tampa since they moved from protesting at Curtis Hixon Park last fall to Voice of Freedom Park in West Tampa last December, but none have been as big as the regional General Assembly held this past Saturday at Lykes Gaslight Park in downtown Tampa.
Approximately 60-70 people gathered at the spot where the local movement first originated in October, but this time they were joined by members of four other local Occupy movements – from St. Petersburg, Lakeland, Sarasota and one member from Manatee/Bradenton.
Although the looming Republican National Convention is issue number one for the Tampa Police Department, the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies, it was not the dominant discussion at Saturday's GA.
