Today the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday is being observed nationally, and there will be major parades in honor of the slain civil rights hero today in the Tampa Bay area.
As has been the case in the past couple of years, the Tampa event begins right in front of WMNF radio, at MLK Jr. Blvd and 15th Street, at 12 noon. In St. Pete, the parade begins at 11 a.m., with the route beginning at Third Avenue S and Martin Luther King Jr. Street.
(Speaking of WMNF, the community radio station raised well over $100,000 in Haitian relief over the weekend, though it says on its Web site that it's researching whether to include 25% of those funds to musician Wyclef Jean's NGO, Yele Haiti, after reports have surfaced questioning that agency's financial health.)
(Here's a list of other such events taking place today).
