Welcome to On the Radar, where we preview up-and-coming arts events to mark your calendar for. Most people are headed out for thrills and chills this weekend, but why not enjoy a good ol' song and dance at Eight O'Clock Theatre's presentation of Singin In the Rain at the Largo Cultural Center?
When "talkies" threaten to take over Hollywood in the 1920s, silent movie star Lina Lamont's shrilly-screeching voice threatens to become box office poison. Up-and-coming actress Kathy Selden agrees to voice-over Lina's latest role, but the diva is determined to cause trouble. Meanwhile, stuntman-turned-Hollywood-heartthrob Don Lockwood (famously played by Gene Kelly onscreen) is stuck in the middle of it all in this romantic comedy that offer memorable numbers like "Fit As a Fiddle," "Make 'Em Laugh," "Would You?" and, of course, "Singin' In the Rain." Oct. 30-Nov. 15, 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Dr., Largo, . $26, $16 students, eightoclocktheatre.com. Franki Weddington
