According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, there are over 69,000 refugees in the U.S. seeking asylum, and over 279,000 settled refugees in our country currently. Next week, Tampa Bay hosts several events celebrating and recognizing the courage and experiences of local refugees for World Refugee Day.
In Tampa, there's a Global Celebration at the historic Centro Asturiano building in Ybor City, which features the film New Year Baby, which tells the story of a Cambodian native who grows up in the U.S. unaware of her parents' experiences surviving the Khmer Rouge genocide.
