In Tampa this morning around 5 a.m., there was a brief burst of rain.

But not surprisingly for this time of year, there hasn't been much of the wet stuff at all, creating drought-like conditions in the Bay area.

That prompted the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s executive director on Thursday to declare an emergency order to increase water restrictions, including limiting lawn watering to once per week in the Tampa Bay area.

Blake Guillory has declared a Modified Phase II emergency water shortage order for Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties. That means that lawn and landscape watering must be reduced to once per week on a specified day, based on address.
