St. Petersburg Little Theatre kicks off its 82nd season with City of Angels, a jazz-oriented musical comedy that pulls from the film-noir genre of the 1940s. Set in Los Angeles, the story focuses on Stine, a successful writer of detective novels who's struggling to adapt one of his works into a script for the silver screen. Parallel plotlines bring the characters to life scene by scene in black-and-white, and follow the adventurous protagonist, Detective Stone, as he tracks down a client's missing stepdaughter. Find out what happens when real life meets reel life in the local production; Jason Tucker directs. Through Sept. 24, 8 p.m. Fri., 2 and 8 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., 4025 31st St. S., St. Petersburg, $20 general/$10 students, 727-866-1973, www.splt.info.
