Hundreds of protestors took over the corner of Central Avenue and 3rd Street in St. Petersburg last Saturday, March 8.
They not only marked International Women’s Day, but continued an ongoing wave of resistance against President Donald Trump who has angered voters of his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, political appointments unraveling of federal government, and more.
St. Petersburg Police Department confirmed to Creative Loafing Tampa that at least one counterprotestor was arrested at the event. According to SPPD, 59-year-old St. Petersburg resident William Patrick Miller was charged with “robbery by sudden snatching without firearm or weapon” after he was observed stealing and damaging a sign from a peaceful protester at around 1:45 p.m.
In the state of Florida the crime is considered a third degree felony, with possible penalties of five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
