Even President Joe Biden, whose administration sent 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, wants Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resist invading Rafah—and last night a handful of Tampa protesters echoed that sentiment.

The action—organized by a coalition of activist groups including Tampa Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, the Party for Socialism & Liberation, Students for a Democratic Society—started at Gadsden Park and moved to an entrance of MacDill Air Force Base before ending at a nearby McDonald’s.

Creative Loafing Tampa Bay photographer said there were no police and no incidents.

The Washington Post says 1.3 million Palestinians have sheltered in Rafah, a southern Gaza city, as the Israeli military continues its now 220-day war on Hamas, a terrorist organization which attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 and taking at least 250 hostages.

Since then, more than 35,000 people have been killed in Palestine, according to Reuters. Netanyahu, for his part, has said he would go it alone in his war, even if the U.S. stops providing offensive weapons.

Despite South Africa and Egypt accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention, U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan does not believe that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Protester signs last night said otherwise, and also called for cease fire in the region, but Quarti officials said that Israel’s latest push into Rafah has left talks cease fire talks between Israel and Hamas “almost at a stalemate.”
