Downtown Tampa was jam-packed last Saturday, thanks to festivities surrounding the tree lighting in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

But revelers were also reminded of the plight of Palestinian people as an estimated 100 activists marched from Joe Chillura Courthouse Square, past Amalie Arena and into the Curt just a day after the ceasefire in Gaza ended last Friday.

Video from the march shows that along the way, the contingent was asked about the group’s stance on LGBTQ issues, demonstrated outside Starbucks, and also shouted “Shame On Jane” in response to Tampa Mayor Jane Castor’s past support and prayers “for all the innocent victims, families, and people impacted by Hamas’ brutality.”

Asked to comment on the chant from protestors, City of Tampa spokesperson Adam Smith said, “So you’re publicizing someone accusing mayor of genocide as if that’s a credible sentiment?”
