Pinellas County Coalition for the Homeless released its annual Pinellas Project Homeless Connect event report this week, detailing the numbers of clients and volunteers, and services rendered at the event. The document is viewable below.
Pinellas Project Homeless Connect is a collaboration among several non-profit and faith-based organizations linking Bay Area homeless with much needed services from medical care to legal assistance, spiritual counseling, hygienic care and voicemail. This years Project Homeless Connect was held at the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Avenue North in St. Petersburg.
Last years point-in-time count identified 6,235 homeless people in Pinellas County with 2,232 of them living unsheltered. Thats a 20 percent increase from 2007 in the number of overall homeless, and an 82.7 percent increase in the number of unsheltered homeless.
This was the third Pinellas Project Homeless Connect and the first to be held at the Coliseum. Project Homeless Connect originated in San Francisco in 2004 and is now implemented in 106 cities across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Australia.
