The Pinellas County School Board took some jobs off the proposed chopping block after over 50 speakers at the board’s meeting on May 26 implored the board to think before it cut.

Superintendent Julie M. Janssen’s recommendation included cuts to several areas like staff, substitutes and unpaid leave, and changes to employee health insurance. After several hours of hearing from residents, and county teachers and staff, the board voted shortly after midnight to keep elementary library and media specialists at full-time, restore STARS program assistants, and not cut one guidance counselor from each middle school.
