We have to be honest. As reporters for this publication, we're sometimes met with incredulity when we mention that we represent an entity called Creative Loafing.

While those who know the publication (either here or in our other Southern locales) are often complimentary, others express befuddlement. And there are those who chuckle somewhat condescendingly, saying they'd love to be able to "creatively loaf."

That's why a press release we received today struck a responsive chord. Issued Tuesday afternoon by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department, the release had the headline, "Three Deputies And One Sergeant Fired Based On Sustained Charges Of Extreme Loafing and Idling."

Yeah, these guys were loafing. And not just any old loafing — they were charged with extreme loafing. Whether they were doing so creatively or not is up for you to decide. But with all of the other heat on Sheriff Bob Gualtieri regarding allegations that narcotics deputies trespassed and lied to gather evidence on marijuana growers, this is the last thing he needs to contend with.
