Free Meditation Seminar

Know Thyself as Soul Foundation, a nonprofit organization, offers meditation programs as a free public service. The group aims to "foster the principles of the unity of all mankind. Blood Drive

Safari Animal Clinic in Temple Terrace is holding a "people and pets" blood drive to benefit local hospitals and veterinary emergency clinics. Human, dog and cat blood are requested. Literacy Volunteers
AmeriCorps Hillsborough Reads, an early intervention literacy program, recruits and trains community members to serve as reading tutors in public elementary schools. AmeriCorps members serve as tutors, tutor trainers and overall literacy support agents, and recruitment is underway for full- and part-timers. Call Deborah at 813-631-4737.
Seeking Mentors
The Minority Business Development Division of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce is developing a mentor/protege program to support minority-owned businesses in the area. The SPCOC is recruiting mentors that are sensitive to the needs of small businesses. Interviews are held throughout July and August. Call 813-821-4069.
Food Drive
Pinellas Cares, a community organization for volunteer action needs donations of canned or dry goods for the poor. All contributions are donated to local food pantries and soup kitchens. Dial 221 on any local phone to get information on donating or receiving food and services through Pinellas Cares. Call 727-550-4052.
PFLAG Meetings
The Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays meet throughout the month at Good Samaritan Church, 6085 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park. On the second Saturday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon, the group hosts its education and advocacy forum; on the fourth Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, support meetings; and every Sunday at 6:30 p.m., the True Expressions Youth Group meets.
