American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
Currently, the best way to help American Red Cross relief efforts is by making a cash donation, says the organization's official site, www.redcross.org. The American Red Cross cannot accept or solicit small, individual donations or collections of items for emergency relief purposes at these official sites. Among some of the area businesses that are accepting cash donations on behalf of the American Red Cross are Albertsons, Kash N Karry, Food Lion, Best Buy, McDonald's, 7-Eleven, Sports Authority and Lowe's. Call 1-800-HELP-NOW or, if Spanish is your preferred tongue, call 1-800-257-7575. Or send money to P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013.
Florida Blood Services
According to its Web site, Florida Blood Services collected more than 7,296 units of blood in the four-day period following the disasters and began shipping blood north within 24 hours. We will continue to support the New York Blood Center as needed and hope to see all of you again under less trying circumstances. Donors must be at least age 17, weigh at least 100 pounds and be in good health.
