A decade ago, it was considered controversial in Tampa when Dick Greco went to Cuba. A couple of years later when Congressman Jim Davis went? Not so much.
The difference in those cases was that Davis placated elements of the anti-Castro wing in Tampa prior to his 2004 trip, whereas former Mayor Greco did not.
According to Ralph Fernandez — long the most outspoken critic of the Castro government in Tampa — apparently neither did Kathy Castor, the latest Tampa lawmaker to make a trip to the communist island.
Fernandez said he spoke with Castor a few times since she announced in the fall of 2011 her intentions to travel to the island.
“Honestly, she didn’t care to address my concerns,” he said.
