Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul said on Fox News Sunday that he wants to enlist outraged Americans in filing a class-action lawsuit against the National Security Agency for acquiring Americans’ phone records without a warrant.
Through two different leaked media reports over the past week, the public has learned that that the NSA obtained data from Verizon about millions of phone calls made from the U.S., and that a program called PRISM has enabled national security officials to collect e-mail, videos, documents and other material from at least nine U.S. companies over the past six year, including Google, Facebook & Yahoo.
"I’m going to be asking all the internet providers and all of the phone companies: ask your customers to join me in a class action lawsuit,” Paul told host Chris Wallace.“If we get ten million Americans saying we don’t want our phone records looked at, then maybe someone will wake up and something will change in Washington.”
